Questions
What is schema markup?
It is a small block of code, usually JSON-LD, that tells search engines what a page is about: a business with an address, an article with an author, a product with a price. Visitors do not see it.
Will it make my page rank higher?
Not by itself. It helps search engines understand the page, and some types can make a page eligible for a richer result. It is not a ranking switch, so write the page for people first.
Where do I paste the code?
Into the page it describes, either in the head or anywhere in the body. Put each page's own markup on that page. If your site builder has a custom code or HTML embed option, use that.
Does FAQ markup still give a special result in Google?
Google no longer shows a special result for most FAQ markup. It is still valid, and other search tools can read it, but do not add it expecting a visual feature in Google.
Do I have to fill in every field?
No. The fields marked with a star are required. The rest are optional, though more detail gives search engines more to work with. Leave out anything you are not sure about, and never add details that are not true or not on the page.
How do I check that it works?
Use Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema.org validator. Both are linked under the code. Paste in the page address or the code itself.
Is my information sent anywhere?
No. The markup is built in your browser and nothing you type leaves your device.
