Questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device. Your images are never sent to a server, which also means it works with private or unreleased work.

WebP or AVIF?

WebP is supported by every current browser and is a safe default. AVIF usually gives smaller files at the same quality, but it takes longer to make and is not supported as widely, so keep a fallback for older browsers.

What quality should I choose?

For photos, around 75 to 85 for WebP and 50 to 65 for AVIF look good for most uses. Check a few images at full size before you convert a whole batch. Graphics with flat colours and sharp edges may need higher quality, or lossless WebP.

Why is a converted file sometimes larger?

An image that is already heavily compressed, or a very small one, can come out larger. When that happens we say so next to the image, and you can keep the original.

Is transparency kept?

Yes. WebP and AVIF both support transparency, so transparent PNGs stay transparent.

Is there a size or number limit?

There is no upload limit because nothing is uploaded. We allow up to 100 images at a time. Very large photos take longer, especially as AVIF, and your device's memory is the real limit.
